What's the Endocannibinoid System, Anyway?

When we first started talking about how hemp oil helps our pets, we brought up something called the Endocannabinoid system. By reading this article, you may better understand how hemp oil helps our pets. We aren’t going to get overly scientific, here. If you would like to learn about the Endocannabinoid system, keep reading.

What's Happening in Our Pet's Body?

Have you ever wondered what’s going on inside your pet’s body? This may or may not come as a surprise, but their bodies are much like ours. Of course, we look nothing like a dog or a cat. But, as far as organ systems and purposes go, our systems are very similar.

Scientists have found the reactions gathered from humans, dogs, and cats, who have interacted with hemp oil to be basically the same (some better than others dependent upon our unique makeup as a human, dog, or cat).

If you aren’t sure about hemp oil, but you would like to try it for yourself first, go for it. There are many humans who use hemp oil for a variety of conditions (the most common being anxiety or pain).

There’s No “High”

We did discuss this a bit in one of our beginning articles. But, hemp is not like marijuana where you feel the euphoric feeling. There’s little to no THC in hemp. If there is THC, it’s unbelievably low, much too low to even detect.

What’s the Endocannabinoid System?

For the purposes of this article, we are going to call this the EC system. As you can guess, the EC system, in the body, is designed to work with EC compounds (like the ones found in hemp oil).

The EC system is responsible for a bunch of different functions including:

  • Balance
  • Coordination
  • Muscle movement
  • Reproductive system
  • Appetite
  • Digestive tract
  • Memory
  • Heart rate
  • Blood pressure
  • Pain
  • Mood regulation and stability
  • Brain Development
  • Internal clock

The EC system ‘comes alive’ better than ever when cannabinoids enter the body (whether it’s our body, our cat’s body, or our dog’s body).

From this point forward, it becomes more and more scientific. So, we won’t include the remainder of how receptors work, how endocannabinoids bind to specific receptors, etc. But, if you do want to learn more, we highly encourage you to do a bit of digging yourself.

So, there you go! Hemp oil works with the endocannabinoid system to help regulate all sorts of different processes in the body. The EC system interacts with basically everything and that’s why it helps so much. The EC system can ‘talk’ to other parts of the body and help them work better.
